Tiki Vahana

Tiki Vahana was hand-carved in oceanic walnut (tou) and it displays traditional Marquesan symbols for protection.

The term “Tiki” is complex and multilayered in Marquesan culture. It generally represents deified ancestors and a god. Tikis are always present at important ceremonies. Marquesans keep Tiki statues inside and outside of their houses, wear them as jewelry and tattoo them on their bodies. Every Tiki is hand-carved and no two Tikis are exactly alike. They often serve to mark the boundaries of sacred or significant sites.

Size: 48cm (18.90 inches)
