Mata Hoata necklace ∿ 2
This playful piece of jewelry displays the fundamental design element in Marquesan culture – Mata Tiki (the eye of a Tiki). Tiki represents etua (god) deified ancestors whose supernatural powers sustain and protect the community – and the eyes were the most supernaturally powerful element of the face.
Mata Hoata was hand-carved in oceania rosewood and it comes with an elegant, adjustable black line.
