Metau Moana (Moana’s hook)
This graceful and elegant hook is one of the most recognizable symbols of Polynesia. It contains significant cultural meaning as well as a sense of belonging to Oceania. The hook is a symbol of energy, strength, prosperity, abundance, and good luck. Since the Polynesian livelihood is very much dependent on the ocean waters, so, the fish hook necklace signifies deep respect and love towards the oceans.
The hook symbol got even more popular after the release of Disney cartoon “Moana”. Interestingly, the source of the inspiration for the story was taken from the Marquesan and Society islands of French Polynesia. In both, Tahitian and Marquesan language, “Moana” means ocean.
This authentic hook was hand-carved out of "tou" tree (oceania walnut) from the Marquesan Island of Nuku Hiva and it comes with an elegant, adjustable black line.
