Pioro Pepe is currently the biggest pipe in our pipe collection with a length of 10 cm. It’s elegantly adorned with traditional Marquesan symbols carved in oceania rosewood from the island of Nuku Hiva. It’s suitable for tobacco and/or cannabis smoking.
Growing and smoking tobacco was one of the first Western practices adopted by the Marquesans in the 19th century. Cannabis (pakalulu) was introduced to the islands only in the mid-20th century. The plant was not native to the Marquesas islands but the locals believe it arrived by the sailing boats from Hawaii. Growing or smoking cannabis is not legal in French Polynesia.
