This piece has exceptional quality and I love the third eye in the forehead! I think that makes a one in a million piece! This is a true work of art!
I recently had the pleasure of acquiring this hand-carved tiki from Tangy & Ana in Nuku Hiva, and I can’t express how delighted I am with this beautiful piece! The craftsmanship is truly exceptional; you can see the love and skill that went into every detail. Each curve and carving tells a story, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Tangy & Ana's attention to detail is remarkable. The tiki has a unique character that makes it a standout piece in my collection. It’s evident that they pour their heart into their work, and it certainly shows. I highly recommend their creations to anyone looking for a meaningful and stunning addition to their home. Thank you, Tangy & Ana, for sharing your artistry with the world!
It's great to be able to support a local artist who creates such wonderful artwork.
After admiring the artwork on this site for some time I reached out to see if they would consider creating a piece similar in style to a previously sold piece I liked. Tangy and Ana went above and beyond and were kind enough to make an incredible Tiki Tama for me. The communication and shipping throughout was exceptional. I would highly encourage anyone interested to reach out as sculpture of this quality is not easy to find.
We recently returned from a 3 week dream trip to the south seas. While there, we had the opportunity to experience Ana and Tangy’s Valley Adventure. The short of it? It was AMAZING and I highly recommend it!
First of all, just getting to the Marquesas is an adventure in itself. After arriving in Tahiti (and spending a couple nights there acclimating), we took an Air Tahiti flight from Papeete to Nuku Hiva (about 3 hours). The airport is on the far northwest corner of the island, and it’s about a 90 minute drive/ride up through the mountains to the main town, Taiohae. Our guesthouse had arranged a taxi for us which was waiting as we arrived. After collecting our luggage, off we went. It really is a beautiful island. Once we arrived in town, we settled in and got some quick dinner.
The next morning, we walked to the marina where a boat met us to take us to the Valley. More adventure! It’s open ocean, so it was a bit rough but beautiful. After 40 min or so, we arrived at the beach where our hosts met us. (As mentioned, there is no dock so you climb off the boat and wade in to shore). After introductions and some explanations about the valley and Tangy’s family history there, we set off to their home where we would spend the next 3 nights.
I really could go on and on, but I will try to summarize.
Lodging—this is camping. It’s relatively easy camping—the tent is all set up for you, the air mattress is inflated and in place, there is a regular flush toilet, sink, and shower (all semi-outdoor). The grounds are spacious, and there is a large canopy set up over the tent and a table and chairs. The river runs along the edge of the property, providing some relaxing white noise in the background.
Activities—we hiked to the waterfall, walked to both beaches (white sand and black sand), saw historic archeological sites, learned about Marquesan culture, hiked up to a former
warriors’ checkpoint/lookout (the most challenging part for us, but well worth it!), made coconut milk, heard lots of stories about Ana’s adventures, stargazed, watched for goats—very peaceful and amazing.
Food—wow! Where do I start. 3 meals a day of FANTASTIC fresh local foods, hand prepared just for us. You will NOT go hungry. We enjoyed every meal and were shocked at the portions offered. We ate as much as we could and there were still leftovers.
If you like the outdoors, are interested in Polynesian Culture, and want a truly epic, unique, genuine experience, then make your way to Nuku Hiva and visit Ana and Tangy. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done in all my travels.
Bon Voyage!
We went on the 2-day trip in Hakaui valley, and it was nothing short of amazing! The valley is beautiful, and Ana and Tangy were the best of guides! They welcomed us into their home, and shared their little paradise with us. The boat trip there can be a bit rough, but so worth it. And the hiking is not an easy stroll, but most people in a normal good condition can do it. This trip was a big highlight of our month long trip to French Polynesia, and I would happily give 100’s of stars to Ana and Tangy, for this amazing tour.
Amazing artist!!! You can see the love and passion in his handcrafted artwork. Double worth the waiting!! Tangy and Ana are the best🫶🤙🏻
Purchased a beautiful piece of wood sculpture art made by a local artist on Nuku Hiva. Very friendly service and I hope to be a return customer. Many thanks!
We had the most incredible time with Anna and Tangy. Everything from communication leading up to our trip, ensuring everything was set, greeting us on the beach as we arrived into the valley and everything else! They are both so friendly, so knowledgable and so kind. They shared the amazing history of the valley, Tangy’s family’s connection to the land, information about the plants and animals nearby and brilliant stories of their time living there. The hike to the waterfall was breathtaking and Anna was so warm and great to talk to. Tangy cooked us the most incredible meal, all from local ingredients - probably the best food we had in all of French Polynesia! If you’re looking for an authentic experience with real locals who genuinely want to share their sacred place with visitors, you absolutely can’t miss out on visiting Anna and Tangy. They open their wonderful home and there is really nothing else like this - cannot recommend enough, and hope one day we’re lucky enough to return! Thank you so much Anna and Tangy.
We participated in the 1-day Adventurous Tour with Ana in Sept 2023. It was the only option available for this time because Tangy is busy fulfilling carving orders and preparing for the Marquisan festival in December.
The adventurous tour was hiking to the warrior checkpoint and Vaipo Waterfall. We were picked up and dropped off from Taiohae via taxi boat. The tour guide, Ana, is Croatian, but has lived in Nuku Hiva for the past 5 years. She was highly knowledgeable and enthusiastic and had really interesting stories to tell about her travels and how she ended up in Hakaui. She knows a great deal about flora, fauna and Marquisan history. She also gave us tips on how to explore the rest of the island. If I have the chance to return to Nuku Hiva, I would do another tour with Cannibal Art in a heartbeat!
The beautiful Hakaui adventure with different hikes in the Hakaui valley. The warm hospitality of Ana and Tangy. The delicious food served. The tales told about the Hakaui history. My wife and I spent three days (two nights) with Ana and Tangy on the Hakaui adventure. You either hike there from Taioha'e or ride there by boat depending if Ana and Tangy are in town or not (you get clear directions well in advance as well as guidance how to make contact with captain Mai if need be). During this period we hiked to Vaipo waterfall, the cursed Tiki, to Kavi Kaffee through the Mape forrest, to the secret valley through the beautiful Banyan forest (and over the "coco nut cemetary") and finally to one of the three warrior view-points in the valley. We passed through the shallow river multiple times (so nice and cool!), got to see several burial places, both for high ranked members of the tribes and for the normal people. It was warm, somewhat challenging - and so very rewarding. The views were stunning, the food Tangy and Ana prepared was nothing short of wonderful and our housing was a comfortable tent with an air mattress and nice clean bedding - we slept like baby koalas! But above all, the hospitality and generosity shown by our hosts will likely be the warmest memory we carry with us.

We recently visited Tangy and Ana for the day and did the trip to the waterfall, on our trip to Hiva Oa and Nuku Hiva. Hands down the highlight of our trip. From the breathtaking boat ride into the valley, the walk thru a beautiful jungle to the most amazing site we saw in all of our 10 days in the Marquesas… ending with an amazing home cooked meal shared in their home. This is a must-do excursion if you want the true authentic experience. Outside Tangy being an amazing artist, these two have a great story and if part of traveling for you is to meet and connect with interesting and authentic people this hits the mark. On a side note, highly suggest reading Ana’s book before hand, great way to even more understand what drew her to the island and how they met. For my wife it was on par with meeting a movie star as she connected so much reading the book. Plan ahead, set it up. They will assist with connecting you with a boat transfer, Mai was great for this as we bounced across the waves. If you have the luxury, do the multi day excursion as there is so much more they are able to show you. That is our only regret and as well that we talked so much on our hike that we had less time to chat at lunch. Thanks Tangy and Ana for a memorable experience!

We visited Ana and Tangy in early July, (2022) and camped at their place in Hakaui. We are SO grateful for the experience! It’s rustic, it’s camping, you wear flip-flops in the rocky shower…..and that’s the joy - to get out in nature, in the stunning Hakaui Valley with good, sincere, smart, generous and hearty people. Tangy and Ana have formed a bond as incredible as it is unlikely. A writer looking for a place to get away from the world to write; and a man descended from the royal Marquesan lineage in that valley, capable of never needing more than what the valley provides. They know so much about where they are, the here-and-now, how to exist with everything. They’re so warm and welcoming and told us so many stories and facts about the valley - the brain swells with information! Anyway, I could go on and on. Ana and Tangy are special and you’re lucky if you get to visit them. Even luckier to taste the wild pig stew! We feel so touched by their generosity and spirit. Go visit if you can….but kinda keep them a secret too. They’re that special.
We had a wonderful day with Anna! We learned so much about her and Tangys way of living - which is absolutely awesome. If you book the tour you will have a great adventurous day with the best food and great insights of what it means to live on the outskirts of the marquesas. It was an eventful day with the boatride, a hike through the valley to the waterfall (even though when there is no water it is absolutely stunning) and a relaxed afternoon at Hakatea bay. We just booked the daytrip, but if you could decide again, we would love to stay for one or two nights. That must be the best experience from what we have heard from people we met on our trip.
We can totally recommend this experience for people visiting Nuku Hiva.
The story behind Ana's trip to Marquesas brought me to Cannibal art. Her book was on my mind, but items that Tangy is making are special, traditional and beautiful. So, we decided to get few coconut bowls. It arrived in only 4 weeks, all in excellent shape and with gorgeous smell. Now we finally have a small peace of Pacific in our home.
Don't hesitate, get it for yourself.
Returned home from a two week cruise on Paul Gauguin in French Polynesia! By far, my favorite day was spent on a hike in the Hakaui valley led by Ana. When our group of 12 returned from a hike crossing the river, viewing the most picturesque volcanic mountains with a waterfall, we dined on fresh Marquesan food prepared by Tangy in their beautiful open air home!
Tangy’s art work is exquisite and I highly recommend!
Would love to attend the three day hike if I return!
I bought a Henua Enana Metau (Marquesan hook) necklace and received it, in The Netherlands, after 2,5 weeks. Thank You Ana and Tangy, you guys Rock big time. It's a pitty most of your necklaces are sold out. I will check out your website regularly to see what's new. Much love to both of you. (a happy customer) ; ))
Fabulous service and great quality products from the original source! Communication could not have been better and my product has arrived to me without issue. It was sent all the way here to NY from Nuku Hiva! I also have more products on the way. Do not hesitate to order or be deterred by shipping! Ana is trustworthy and communicates with you throughout the process. Thank you again Ana and Tangy! I will be ordering from you again soon!
Merci à Ana et Tanguy pour ces 2 jours en immersion dans cette magnifique vallée de Hakaui. Que leur désir de préserver et de partager art, culture, et beauté de cette vallée soit un succès.
I ordered a wonderful carved tiki - Tiki Vahana - in December of 2021. I was excited and anxious for it to arrive but it had not yet arrived by mid February 2022. I contacted Ana and Tangy to check on the whereabouts of the tiki. Ana assured me that a parcel had never been misplaced in the past. Ana went to extrordinary lengths to track and determine the location of the tiki in transit. She finally located the tiki in New Zealand and the item arrived within the following week. Whilst tiki's journey took some 11 weeks, I was immensely relieved to finally welcome the great protector tiki to its new home here in tropical North Queensland Australia where it holds a prominent and revered position of authority upon the dining table. I am equally thankful to Tangy as the creator of an exquisite and unique piece of polynesian art and to Ana for the unwaivering assistance provided and efforts applied in recovering Tiki Vahana - exeptional service! Get onto their website and select a unique and high quality item for your home to enrich your life.
Best regards
Mike
