Strong Marquesan warrior (Toa Karaiha Te Henua Enana in Marquesan language)

This is a wall-art with an authentic story carved in oceanic rosewood from Hakaui Valley.
It displays an ancient Marquesan warrior that’s protecting his island. Nuku Hiva Island was carved on the back of the turtle shell which carries a strong meaning in Marquesan culture. Like deified ancestors, turtles were believed to have the ability to cross between two worlds - mortal and immortal.

Symbolically, a turtle (honu) means immortality, strength, stability, fertility, and creation. Despite being slow in pace, this creature never gives up which signifies perseverance, endurance, and faithfulness – sometimes against incredible odds. It is also regarded as a mark of good luck and guidance.

This fascinating piece promotes the importance of protecting nature, the island, and all of its living inhabitants through the hands of an ancient warrior.
