Kee toki (Stone adze)

"Kee toki" is the original name of the  Marquesan adze that was an essential tool for carving canoes, and other wooden objects around the Marquesas throughout history.

This stunning piece was handcrafted on Nuku Hiva Island. The stone blade is attached to the oceanic rosewood and cattle bone handle using a natural coconut sennet cordage.

It is adorned with the tikis for protection. Tiki represents etua (god) deified ancestors whose supernatural powers sustain and protect the community.

Size: 66 cm in length
